If you have ever seen photos of freedivers descending through brilliant beams of light in an underwater cavern, you were likely looking at the cenotes of Mexico. These natural freshwater pits are scattered throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, and they are arguably the best freediving locations on the planet.
There are no waves, no currents, and no roaring boat engines. It is just you, the line, and visibility that seems to stretch on forever.
Next summer, from July 10th to July 18th, 2026, 72 Aquatics is heading back south for an immersive, 8-day freediving camp in Playa del Carmen. We have designed this trip to be the perfect blend of athletic training, relaxation, and cultural exploration. Whether you are a total beginner looking to earn your SSI Freediver rating or an advanced diver prepping for your instructor course, this trip is built for you.
The Daily Rhythm: Yoga, Breath, and Depth
Freediving is as much a mental discipline as it is a physical one. That is why we are starting every single morning of this trip with “Yoga for Freedivers.”
Before we ever touch the water, we will spend time stretching, opening up our chest cavities, and practicing the deep, meditative breathing techniques necessary for safe breath-holds. Once our minds and bodies are prepped, we load up the transport and head into the jungle.
Over six dedicated dive days, we will be line diving and exploring some of the most iconic cenotes in the world, including:
- Kaan Lum: A massive, tranquil lagoon with a deep turquoise center that offers incredibly calm conditions for deep descents.
- Kin Ha: A breathtaking, sunlight-filled cavern that makes you feel like you are floating in an underground cathedral.
- Maravilla: Famous for its awe-inspiring rock formations and a thick, cloud-like hydrogen sulfide layer that looks like an underwater river.
Because these sites are uncrowded and serene, they provide the absolute perfect environment for skill refinement. You’ll have dedicated time to work on your Free Immersion specialty, push your personal bests, or just enjoy some relaxed playtime swimming through the sun rays.
Your Home Base in Playa
When we aren’t in the water, we will be living it up in the heart of Playa del Carmen. We are spending 8 nights at the beautiful Aria Hotel (double occupancy), which offers a fantastic view over the city. It’s the perfect home base for exploring the local cuisine and vibrant culture.
We’ve also built a dedicated “Playday” into the itinerary so you can hit the beach, explore the ancient Mayan pyramids, or just chill out and recover.

How to Secure Your Spot
Spots on our freediving camps fill up quickly because we keep the group sizes small and intimate. A $750 non-refundable deposit holds your place on the line, with the final payment due by May 15, 2026.
A quick note on payments: Because dive travel operates on very tight margins, we ask that you do not use “Shop Pay” at checkout, as the high interest fees create financial difficulties for the shop. Instead, if you need a payment plan to fit your budget, please reach out directly to Ben at ben@paragondive.com. He is fantastic at working out a custom milestone plan that makes paying for your dream trip totally stress-free.
